10 Self-Care Ideas To Help Ease The Stress Before Your Wedding
When the big day is approaching, your to-do list will get longer and complex by the day. Even the more laid back bride or groom-to-be will encounter some stressful moments during the planning process. Reading, researching and learning can also be a good way to get rid of the anxiety but hiring a professional team that you can rely on, is the key to ease with the nervousness.
Think about the Wedding planning as a marathon, not a sprint: you’ll need to allow yourself a lot of self-care moments, in between each stressful steps. For you my dear, here is a list of 10 self-care ideas, tested and approved, to help you take care of yourself before the big day!
Like everything, repetitiveness is the key to make it a habit and have an overall stressless life. So put each of these tips as a to-do list in your calendar, in your planner, in your phone!
1. Dance - Work Out
You will have days more packed than others. I sometimes close the door, put my headphones on and dance on some 90’ hit playlist or learn a choreography with Obé (I subscribed to their services and I don’t regret it! Here is a two weeks free for you my friend) A rush of endorphins is always welcome isn’t it?
2. Walk - Run
Connect with Nature. Smell some roses, rub some lavender in your hands, breath the Ocean fresh air or walk in our local park. Researchers say that in order to reap the health benefits of Nature, you should spend at least two hours weekly in green spaces.
3. Read a book or ten.
I love to listen to books while outdoor. Here are my few favorite one lately heard on Audible:
- Untamed, by Glennon Doyle
- To Shake the Sleeping Self: A Journey from Oregon to Patagonia, and a Quest for a Life with No Regret. by. Jedidiah Jenkins.
- Wild by Cheryl Strayed
- Travels by Michael Crichton
- Spirit Hacking by Shaman Dureck
- City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
4. Talk it Out
Schedule Zoom Call with your Closest Friend or your favorite family member to talk about anything else than the wedding.
Or if you feel like you REALLY need to talk it out, you can call your therapist!
5. Take a bath
How stressful is it to plunge in a hot bath and soak while listening to relaxing music… Said no one ever. Here is my favorite playlist to listen to in the bath: Elecro Chill.
And if you need a link to the best Candle EVER here it is: Paddywax - Yosemite
6. Journal
If you like lists as much as I do, chances are that you will love the Lamare journals. My favorite one, One Day At A Time, really changed my everyday life by helping me stay organized. The daily grateful list, the to do list and the weekly and monthly reflection, the habits tracking and the goals section keep my sanity alive as I often have a thousand of projects on. Planning a wedding along having a full life can be overwhelming, so keeping track of everything is essential to stay mentally healthy! Oh, and if you need a cute wedding planner, Etsy has many cool one.
7. Sleep Early
Set an alarm on your phone to go to bed early each night. It’s easy to forget what time it is and work all night! I often put some drops of Vagus Nerve oil by Osea Malibu on my pillow before bed to relax and let go of all the tensions.
8. Drink some tea
Coffee is everything, I know I know… But did you ever try herbal tea? My favorite French brand is selling some tea on Amazon. Check them out here: Palais Des Thés.
9. Ground yourself
Get a massage, book a healing session, meditate with some crystals, read some feel-good quotes, burn some Palos Santos, do some yoga, listen to a sound bath…
10. Take a break
And watch a video! My favorite vlogs these days:
- Laura Moonzi for my French fellows! My friends Laura is French-Italian and leaves in California. She creates many videos of her life here in California and if you want to see the episode I took photos of her, it’s here: VLOG La Petite Photo Session
- Li Ziqi is a Chinese Goddess. She lives in the countryside with her grandma and creates food and handicraft
- Her86m2 her video about how to make a garden on your balcony got me started and now I’m simply obsessed with her videos…
I only allow myself one per day but it’s so relaxing and it doesn’t get me lost in the instagram rabbit hole!
Bonus: Allow yourself a sweet reward.
Before starting anything stressful on your to-do list or tasks to do, a stressful call, plan how are you going to reward yourself? Like a pain au chocolat from Moulin or indulging with a Polvorón from Gusto . I call it self-care because I shamelessly and deliberately decide in advance that I deserve a little sweet in my life and once I work hard for it, I just… Indulge! Hear me now, the goal is to have a little masterpiece of pastry or culinary treasure, not to empty the junk food drawer! (Although, I promise, I won’t judge ;) )
