The Most Romantic Venue in Long Beach, CA - The Ebell LB

Jacqueline contacted me a couple of month before her wedding and shared with me about her time in Paris, her love for the crepes at Le Petit Grec and her life being a student at La Sorbonne. Funny enough, we studied at the same university, around the same time and I’d like to think we probably bumped into each other in the metro or around a coffee somewhere in Le Marais. Her fiancé, Matthieu, is American but wear a French name. It felt like a special French combo when both your couple’s name and yours are French.

We met at the beach for their engagement session a couple of month back and I loved our time together. Matt and Jackie described their relationship as “easy”, and “flowy”. Jackie mentioned that she knew he was the one after realizing she didn’t have to work hard and pretend with him. Everything seemed so effortless.
Matt proposed on the 4th of July, after dating for three years. He actually asked for her dad’s permission first but was waiting for the right moment to do it. Jackie’s dad actually raised his glass and gave a toast to welcome a new family member before Matt had the time to propose! You know your family is excited for your wedding when they welcome your fiancé in the family even before he proposed!

I was very excited to photograph them at The Ebell of Long Beach. For many reasons, I consider this Venue one of the most romantic Venue of Long Beach, California.

  1. INDOOR SPACE WITH NATURAL LIGHT.

This is a photographer dream to photograph an indoor ceremony with such an amazing natural light. The ceilings of The Ebell are made of glass which reveal the best colors and a lot of options to play with lights.
The hundred or tropical plants framing the ceremony area in their terra-cotta planters give the space an antique touch. The first time I saw the ceremony area, I immediately thought about a French greenhouse from the 19th century. The natural light from the ceiling makes these green babies grow so lush and healthy. It’s the perfect little green touch to portrait photos.

2. THE DARK AND MOODY PALETTE.

Entering the Venue, the first thing that struck you is the gorgeous Art Deco black and white tiles. The palette of the ceremony area is black and white with touches of green. The reception and cocktail hour are moodier with walls made with dark wood. Every colors are well tough of and each piece of art gives an extra pop of color and modernity to the historical look.

3. THE ARCHITECTURE.

The Spanish vibe from the alcoves, little painted details and pilars reveal the history of the Venue. The architecture with the balcony and corridors on each sides of the Ceremony area transport you in a romantic movie and you can nearly feel like in an hacienda and expect someone would start singing a serenade to their loved one on the balcony.

4. THE LOUNGE AREA.

A perfect area for cocktail hour with a piano, comfortable sofa and surrounded by eclectic art. This room is a little bit dark and moody, it makes any getting ready’s photo so classy and artsy. And if you are planning to get married at the Ebell, do not forget to take a bathroom selfie. I know what you may think, but have a look at the sofa and the old artwork framed on the wall and tell me you want to skip it!

5. THE COUPLE’S SUITE.

The bright and large couple’s suite offers everything you need to take romantic and beautiful getting ready photos. From the fury sofa, to the sculpted gold sheep head and the antique mirrors, each details make the room so classy and elegant.
